Beloved Communities

What is a Beloved Community?

At Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex, we envision a Beloved Community where everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, or background—feels welcomed, included, and empowered. This concept reflects our commitment to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of a world shaped by justice, respect, and shared purpose. Through our Beloved Community program, we foster equity, inclusion, and a spirit of collaboration that drives our mission to build homes, hope, and brighter futures for all.

Building Community, Sharing Skills, Creating Opportunities

At Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex, we believe that building community is just as important as building homes. Our programs create a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can connect, share experiences, and develop skills that empower them in their personal and professional journeys.

Through hands-on learning and mentorship, we provide opportunities for participants to gain confidence, build connections, and contribute meaningfully to their community. Whether you’re looking to learn new skills, gain experience, or find a sense of belonging, Habitat Windsor-Essex offers a space where everyone is valued, supported, and encouraged to grow.

We acknowledge that we are on land and surrounded by water, originally inhabited by Indigenous Peoples who have travelled this area since time immemorial. This territory is within the lands honoured by the Wampum Treaties; agreements between the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Lenni Lenape and allied Nations to peacefully share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.

Specifically, we would like to acknowledge the presence of the Three Fires Confederacy (Ojibwe, Odawa, Potawatomi) and Huron/Wendat Peoples. We are dedicated to honouring Indigenous history and culture while remaining committed to moving forward respectfully with all First Nations, Inuit and Métis.
